Some people are truly stuck on the idea that unless a medical doctor prescribes some form of medicine or treatment, any other form of medicine (alternative medicine health care, alternative medicine doctor, etc.) is quackery and foolishness!

However, I recently watched a fascinating television program that reported on the use of maggots in curing long-lasting, chronic infections in bed-ridden patients. Yes, you're reading right--maggots. But, just because maggots are disgusting little worms that usually feed on carrion, it doesn't mean that they don't have an important role to play in alternative medicine health care.

In fact, the point of the television program was to show the use of complementary and alternative medicine--the maggots were being used in a modern hospital, and the recipients of the treatment were very grateful as medical medicine had utterly failed to cure their infections. And, remember, this experiment was carried out in a hospital with the supervision of doctors.

So, it appears that an alternative medicine doctor can work hand in hand with a medical doctor to achieve wholesome results. In actual fact, it's been going on for decades, but the medical community at large has felt threatened in the past and kept it rather quiet, but more and more medical doctors are now seeing the wisdom of a holistic, alternative medicine health care approach and so the integration of alternative medicine in expanding.
