Becoming your family’s own alternative medicine doctor may actually be easier then you first expected. What I came to realize after asking myself, what is alternative medicine, is that alternative forms of treatment are all around a household. The kitchen is almost like a pharmacy for complementary and alternative medicine. This dawned on me, a couple weeks ago when I felt my throat starting to clog up. It was nothing serious but I could tell some at home treatment was the best way to stay away from a doctor’s visit. My mom had always boiled hot honey tea for me when I had a sore throat so I figured this would be the best choice for treatment. All the supplies were in the kitchen and after a few minutes of letting the tea cool down, I got the relief I was looking for. The mixture of hot liquid and sweet honey does wonders for the throat. I don’t really understand the technical details behind it but it works and it’s a simple cure. There are so many other complementary and alternative medicine ingredients in the kitchen. Fresh herbs, honey, water even hot sauce. The quickest way to clear up a stuffy nose is to chow down on some fiery hot sauce and then take a hot shower for complete nasal drainage.
